Japanese Imari Dish Decorated With Koi Carp, 19th Century
A beautiful handpainted Japanese Imari oval glazed dish with fluted edges, profusely decorated in vibrant shades or blue, red, orange, green and yellow with gilt overlay, featuring two large Koi carp in vibrant orange and blue, surrounded by flowering irises and orange daisies.
Dating to the late 19th century.
Imari ware is a Western term for a brightly-coloured style of Arita ware Japanese export porcelain made in the area of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, northwestern Kyūshū. They were exported to Europe in large quantities.
