James Lawrence Isherwood (English 1917 - 1989) - Torquay Nocturne

Oil on masonite/hardboard board, signed lower right, 14" x 11"

The artist applied his typical use of bold colours and brushwork to show the impressionist reflection of Torquay town (Devon) in the harbour waters after dusk.

Marked verso 'Torquay Nocturne, 51 Gns' and 'Lily' which means that Isherwood considered this to be one of his finest works and would not sell it during his lifetime.

A fine example of the artists work in excellent condition. (A couple of minor nibbles to the slim black frame).
