Rare 19th century French Louis XV style black Chinoiserie lyre clock with raised Chinoiserie designs.

 

Fitted with a French 8 day pendulum movement marked 'Medaille D'or Paris GLT BTe SCDC' for Andre Roman Guilmet.

To the top of the case there are embossed circular mounts and a bronze finial.
 

The clock sits on 3 adjustable bronze feet which facilitate balancing.The cream porcelain dial with black arabic numerals.

The clock is in good condition keeping excellent time, showing minor wear to the case consistent with age.

 

André Romain Guilmet (1827-1892?)
The French watchmaker André Romain Guilmet was born 1827 in La Ferté-Gaucher, France. He founded the watch manufactory Guilmet & Cie in Paris with the trademark ‘Brévété GLT SGCG’. Guilmet became well-known in 1867, when he patented his so-called 'mystery clock’.
