Arthur Baker-Clack (Australian 1877 - 1955), Le Chaumine, Oil On Board, Signed Lower Right
Arthur Baker-Clack was an Australian-born painter in the impressionist school. Born in South Australia in 1877.
After and early career as a Journalist for The Register in Adelaide and The Perth Morning Herald, covering events in the goldfields area, Baker-Clack later moved to France where he studied art under Jean Paul Laurens and became a member of The Sickert's London Group. He also trained in London and Paris and with Rupert Bunny at Étaples. He resided at the art colony at Étaples, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, in France from 1910 and continued to live there during and after World War I.
He exhibited at The New Salon the Salon des Independents in Paris, London and Australia and was a jury member for the Salon d'Automne and of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
His work is held in many public and private collections in Australia and the UK.
He died in 1955 in Folkestone, Kent.
