19th Century French Louis XV Style Rouge and Black Marble Library Clock

A Louis XV style marble library clock, c1870-1890.
Rouge and black marble case surmounted by a rouge marble orb. Decorated with patinated bronze mounts and feet. 

 

The case is in beautiful condition with only one small nibble in the marble below the rear door and is otherwise perfect having been cleaned and polished by a marble specialist.

The high quality French two train movement is by Samuel Marti and bears the makers medaille de bronze logo on the backplate which is also stamped Ch. VGNE.  The movement has been serviced and is in excellent clean, running condition. Chimes the hours and half hours on a bell.
 

The clock comes complete with its original key and pendulum which is also stamped Ch. VGNE.

This is a very sophisticated looking clock and would look perfect in a gentleman's study or a library.
