A beautiful acrylic on board using the bright colour palette which is characteristic of the artists later works.
Donald Mcintyre was born in 1923 in Leeds, United Kingdom of Scottish parents and spent his childhood years in the west of Scotland. He studied as a dentist at the Glasgow Dental Hospital while taking night classes in art at the Glasgow School of Art. He served in the army and then worked for the school services.
In the late 1940’s McIntyre moved to North Wales and at the age of 40 he left dentistry to make a living as a full time painter. Mcintyre spent most summers painting on the island of Iona.
He was a member of the Pastel Society, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Cambrian Academy.
He exhibited widely in London, Scotland, Wales and Europe and today his paintings are widely collected with works held in collections including the Llyfrgell Geneglaethol Cymru National Library of Wales, the American Embassy in London, the Newport Art Gallery, the Williamson Art Gallery and private collections globally.
McIntyre died on January 13, 2009 in Bangor, Wales.
